Welcome to Tregoyd Mountain Riders

Nestled in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, Tregoyd Mountain Riders offers an unparalleled horse riding experience amidst the stunning landscapes of the Black Mountains. With direct access to open commons and hillsides, riders are treated to breathtaking views of the River Wye and the Wye Valley, all framed by the majestic mountain ranges of the national park.

Catering to all ages and skill levels, Tregoyd Mountain Riders provides a range of tailored experiences. For novices and non-riders, half-day and full-day pony trekking sessions offer gentle walks with occasional trots, ensuring a comfortable introduction to horse riding. More seasoned riders can opt for half-day or full-day rides, encompassing walks, trots, and the occasional canter. Experienced equestrians seeking an adrenaline rush can engage in hacking sessions, featuring faster-paced canters across varied terrains.

Safety and comfort are paramount. The centre meticulously matches each rider’s experience, height, and weight to one of their well-mannered, sure-footed horses. Prior to each ride, participants receive a comprehensive safety demonstration and are introduced to their designated horse or pony, fostering a bond of trust and confidence.

Operating primarily from March to the end of October, Tregoyd Mountain Riders ensures optimal weather conditions for outdoor adventures. While many ponies enjoy a winter hiatus, a select few remain, allowing for limited treks during the off-season. It’s advisable to contact the centre directly to discuss specific riding requirements and availability.

Embarking on a journey with Tregoyd Mountain Riders promises not only an exhilarating equestrian adventure but also an intimate encounter with the natural beauty and serenity of the Brecon Beacons. Whether you’re a first-time rider or an experienced horse enthusiast, the trails of the Black Mountains await your exploration.

Talgarth Mill

Welcome to Talgarth Mill, Tours and Craft Shop

Talgarth Mill: Working Watermill and Gardens in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons)

Talgarth Mill once formed the beating heart of the area, grinding corn for local farmers, until it fell into disrepair in the 1940s. That all changed in 2011 when, thanks to the Mill’s owner, National Lottery Funding and the local community, the Mill complex was restored to full working order.
Today, Talgarth Mill is a Grade II listed building and is the only working watermill in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The Mill forms a vibrant visitor attraction, café and bakery and is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting this beautiful area.
Talgarth Mill’s hard working team of volunteer millers, baggers, tour guides and gardeners are justly proud of what they have achieved and happily show visitors around the Mill to demonstrate how locally grown grains are milled into top class wholegrain flour.

The star of the attraction – the Mill’s waterwheel – is best viewed from our riverside garden. From here, visitors are able to watch the water’s journey down the ‘leat’ and over the wheel, where it cascades into the River Ennig, flowing past the Mill and through the town.

Dippers, slowworms, crayfish, trout, eels, and even otters have all been spotted from the garden – a beautiful, tranquil spot. The sounds of the river combined with the gently turning water wheel creates an amazing sensory experience.

Entry to the garden is free, with donations gratefully accepted to help keep both the Mill and our garden open.

We’re a working watermill that welcomes visitors of all ages to come and watch us in action. Follow the water on its journey to the wheel and see water power turn grain into flour. Listen to our millers and guides explain the history of the mill and how we are giving a traditional piece of machinery a new lease of life.

Tours last around 45 minutes.

Children are welcome on the tours and will be encouraged to have a go at winnowing the grain – a process that sorts the wheat from the chaff – or by using the Mill’s small hand grinder that magically turns grain into flour! We also welcome larger groups to the Mill.

Tour prices are currently: £5 per adult, £2.50 for children 5-15, or £12 for a family (2 adults and two children). Children under 5 are free.

Whether an individual or larger group, please email enquiries@talgarthmill.com for further information and to book a tour.

The Felin Fach Griffin: Local Food and Relaxed Dining in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons)

In between Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, right in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, you’ll find The Felin Fach Griffin – our much-loved inn, where good food, proper hospitality and a relaxed setting go hand in hand.

We take great pride in our food and believe it should reflect the place we live in. That means strong flavours, well-sourced ingredients and dishes that change with the seasons. Our menus are led by what’s coming out of the organic kitchen garden, the fields and farms that surround us, and the local estates that supply game, meat and more.

There’s always a warm welcome at the bar – we serve a fine selection of local ales, carefully chosen wines and some excellent non-alcoholic options too. Whether you’re popping in for a quiet pint, lunch after a morning walk, or sitting down for a full supper, our team will make sure you’re well looked after.

We serve food every day – lunch and dinner through the week, and a traditional Sunday lunch at the weekend. Our dining spaces are relaxed and informal, just as we like them, and we’re always happy to cater for dietary requirements if you let us know.
