Brecon Bunkhouse
Brecon Bunkhouse
Brecon Bunkhouse offers simple, spacious and affordable group accommodation for up to 28 people in the Black Mountains, close to Talgarth. Set on a working farm in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, it is a practical base for outdoor clubs, Duke of Edinburgh groups, Scouts, walking, gliding and wild-swimming groups, and family gatherings.
The bunkhouse has six bedrooms with adult-sized bunks, in rooms sleeping from two to ten. Guests need to bring their own sheet, sleeping bag or duvet, and pillow; the top bunks do not have ladders. The building is centrally heated and well insulated, with a wood-burning stove in the lounge.
Facilities include a fully equipped kitchen with a catering cooker, microwave and large fridge, a dining room with space for the whole group, a separate lounge, three toilets and two shower rooms. There is also a boot room and space for storing and cleaning bikes or canoes.
Walking routes to Castell Dinas and Waun Fach begin from the door, with mountain biking, horse riding, gliding, canoeing and wild swimming nearby. A local pub is within walking distance. Abergavenny is the nearest railway station, with taxis available, and buses serve Brecon and Talgarth.
Brecon Bunkhouse describes itself as a clean, welcoming “camping barn” rather than a holiday cottage: the accommodation is basic, but there is plenty of room and an excellent location for group adventures.
