The Old Barn sleeps six in three bedrooms at Porth-y-Parc, an organically run smallholding on the slopes of Sugar Loaf near Abergavenny, in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. It is one of two holiday cottages on the holding, with fields, woodland and walking routes from the door. Abergavenny’s shops, pubs and restaurants are a short drive away.
A cast-iron spiral staircase leads to an upstairs double bedroom, twin bedroom and family bathroom with a roll-top bath. The third bedroom, known as the Bat Room, has a king-size bed and an en-suite wetroom, and is entered separately from the front courtyard. The owner describes this room as wheelchair accessible; discuss the courtyard, routes between rooms and your individual access needs before booking.
The open-plan ground floor combines a kitchen, dining area and living space with a wood-burning stove. There is a range cooker, large fridge-freezer and dishwasher, plus a washing machine and space for outdoor gear in the utility room, with a separate WC alongside. An air-source heat pump supplies the underfloor heating. Linen, towels and Wi-Fi are provided.
Outdoor seating areas look towards Sugar Loaf and the surrounding valley, with a barbecue provided. An old byre off the courtyard has table tennis and table football, and there is parking for two cars. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, so check with the owners before booking. Bikes may be brought, but there is no secure bike storage and the path through Porth-y-Parc is a footpath, not a cycling route.
