Welcome to Pentre Riding Stables

Pentre Riding Stables offers horse riding and pony trekking at Pen-y-cae in the Upper Swansea Valley, opposite Craig-y-nos Castle. Routes follow bridleways, woodland, fields and open hills in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), with rides arranged around experience and ability.

Trekking options

One-hour treks offer an introduction for first-time riders or those with limited time. Longer options include one-and-a-half-hour and two-hour rides; ask the team which route and duration will suit your group.

A day ride combines two two-hour treks, returning to the stables for lunch in between. Lunch is not included: bring your own or ask about nearby options. The stables also offers longer, more challenging rides; discuss your experience before choosing.

Treks include assessment and instruction, with experienced leaders and groups of up to ten riders. Pentre describes itself as British Horse Society approved, an approved Pony Club Centre and a member of the Wales Trekking and Riding Association.

Group and private riding lessons are also available. Ask about current lesson times, children’s pony days, riding parties and riding holidays, including age requirements and the arrangements for each activity.

Contact the team for current availability and prices. New riders need to complete a rider registration form, and lesson bookings are requested by email or WhatsApp because telephone reception can be poor while staff are out on the hills.

Riding carries an element of risk, and hill routes can include steep or rocky ground. Discuss any concerns or particular requirements when booking and follow the team’s guidance.
