Ysgubor Bach Bunkhouse
Self-catering group accommodation on a working hill farm
Ysgubor Bach is a converted farm barn for up to ten guests on the Rees family’s working hill farm near Merthyr Tydfil, in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. It provides self-catering space for families, smaller groups and get-togethers, alongside the farm’s larger Coed Owen Bunkhouse.
The three-bedroom layout includes a ground-floor twin room with an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs are a second twin room and a room with six single beds, sharing a family bathroom. A separate toilet and washbasin are also provided. Discuss any access requirements with Netty before booking; most sleeping spaces are upstairs.
The fitted kitchen has an oven, induction hob, fridge and microwave. There is a large sitting and dining room with a television and wood-burning stove, as well as central heating. Outside catering can be arranged in advance.
The farm gives guests direct access to the mountain for walks towards Pen y Fan. There is on-site parking and secure storage for bikes and canoes, with BikePark Wales, Waterfall Country and Merthyr Tydfil among the options for days out.
The family has retained original features from the farm buildings and describes wildlife areas, native hedge planting and a wildlife pond as part of its work on the land. Guests can help by using energy and water carefully, and by asking about walking routes and local transport.
