A self-catering apartment for two in Hay-on-Wye

Upstairs at the Cheese Market is a self-catering apartment for two in the centre of Hay-on-Wye, overlooking the town square and Hay Castle. Bookshops, cafés, restaurants and shops are within walking distance, with the Black Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog within reach for days out.

Built around 1835 as Hay’s town hall, the red sandstone building was restored by the local community. The apartment occupies the former manorial courtroom on the first floor, above the ground-floor market hall. High ceilings and large windows make the most of the setting.

There is a king-size double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a living and dining area, and a fitted kitchen with an oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and fridge with a small freezer compartment. Central heating, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are provided.

Access is by a steep original oak staircase, so the apartment is not step-free. A dedicated private parking space is about a three-minute walk away; parking is not on site. Contact the team before booking if you would like to discuss access or parking arrangements.

The property is managed by Hay-on-Wye Community Enterprise CIC, a not-for-profit organisation supporting local community projects. Your stay helps support that work.
