Group Accommodation with the Mountains on the Doorstep

Coed Owen Bunkhouse is a converted farm barn sleeping up to 26 people on a working Welsh hill farm near Merthyr Tydfil, right within Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.

The bunkhouse grew from the Rees family’s decision to give one of the farm’s former livestock and wool barns a new life. Many of the original features remain, but inside there is plenty of practical space for groups, with five bedrooms, a large commercial-style kitchen, open-plan dining area and comfortable communal space for relaxing together after a day outside. Bedrooms include two six-bed dormitories, a ten-bed dormitory, a small double room and a twin room.

What really sets Coed Owen apart is its location. Guests have direct access from the farm onto the mountain, making it possible to head out towards Pen y Fan without first getting back in the car. Walkers can explore more walking routes across Bannau Brycheiniog, while cyclists and mountain bikers have secure storage for bikes and BikePark Wales within easy reach.

The bunkhouse works particularly well for walking and cycling groups, families, clubs, celebrations and outdoor weekends. Ground-floor sleeping spaces, a twin bedroom and an adapted shower and WC are available. Discuss your group’s access requirements with the team before booking.

Nearby Merthyr Tydfil adds another dimension to a stay, with industrial heritage, places to eat and easy access to the southern side of the National Park.

There is on-site parking, outdoor space and a barbecue area. A separate building with a wood-burning stove is also available to guests, and outside catering can be arranged in advance. Check dates on the owner’s calendar and send an enquiry or call Molly to discuss your group.
