Dark Sky Wales
Dark Sky Wales
Dark Sky Wales offers guided stargazing, astronomy courses and astrophotography experiences in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and elsewhere in Wales.
There are options for beginners and more experienced stargazers, including group evenings, private family or couples’ sessions, and one-to-one telescope tuition.
Stargazing experiences
Astronomers help you find constellations and use telescopes and binoculars to explore the night sky. What you can see depends on the season, the Moon and the weather, so individual sights cannot be guaranteed.
Astrophotography experiences
Learn about photographing the night sky with practical guidance on cameras, exposure and image processing. Check the selected experience for equipment provided, age guidance and any kit you should bring.
Educational workshops
Dark Sky Wales offers astronomy courses covering subjects such as constellation recognition, dark sky awareness and GCSE Astronomy. Its mobile planetarium can also be used for daytime and indoor events; contact the team for current courses and group arrangements.
Professional services
The team works with local authorities, national parks and other organisations on dark sky surveys, astronomy events, staff training and the development of Dark Sky Discovery Sites, Parks and Reserves.
Weather and planning your visit
Some stargazing experiences offer indoor astronomy talks in a warm room when visibility is poor, while others may be rescheduled. Check the arrangements for your chosen session rather than assuming every event follows the same weather policy.
Book in advance and confirm your meeting place, starting time and any access needs. Wear warm clothing and suitable footwear, and follow the instructions provided with your booking.
