Welcome to Good Day Out – Sheepdog Herding Experience

Ever wanted to herd sheep with a working Welsh Border Collie, just like on One Man and His Dog? With Good Day Out’s sheepdog experience, you can watch a trainer at work and then have a go yourself.

The experience takes place on a working Welsh hill farm in Cwmdu, near Crickhowell, in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Your trainer, Ross Games, breeds and trains Welsh Border Collies for farm work and sheepdog trials. He introduces dogs at different stages of training and demonstrates how he works with them before you try directing a dog to move the training sheep.

Sessions last around ninety minutes, with up to six people in a join-in group and private bookings available. Check the current calendar for seasonal dates, prices and private-group options. The comfort and welfare of the dogs and sheep come first throughout the experience.

The sessions are aimed at adults. Children over twelve may attend as part of a private group with accompanying adults; check the arrangements before booking. There are no spectator-only places, and you cannot bring your own dog or use the session as training for it. There is no shaded parking for leaving dogs in hot weather.

Wear sturdy boots for the field and follow the owner’s clothing advice, including long sleeves and trousers. Discuss access or mobility needs in advance. Booking is essential, and full meeting-point directions are sent afterwards; this is not a drop-in attraction. Gift vouchers are available, and the experience supports Brecon Dog Rescue. Good Day Out’s pigs and donkeys are at other locations.
