Welcome to Grange Horse Riding and Trekking Centre

Grange Trekking Centre offers horse riding and pony trekking from Capel-y-Ffin in the Black Mountains, within Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.

Routes lead into the surrounding hills, with views across the Black Mountains and, on suitable rides, towards the wider Bannau Brycheiniog landscape.

There are options for first-time riders as well as people with riding experience. Tell the team about your experience and any support needs so they can advise on a suitable ride.

The centre uses Welsh ponies and cobs, with horses individually matched to riders. Staff provide instruction and demonstrations before setting off.

Trekking combines riding with exploring the countryside. The pace depends on the group and riders’ experience, with opportunities for experienced riders to go faster where appropriate.

The published riding weight limit is 92kg. Discuss your height, weight, experience and any mobility needs with the centre before booking; suitability is assessed by the team.

Hourly rides are aimed at children aged four to seven or riders who would benefit from a shorter outing. Half-day treks welcome beginners and experienced riders and include about two hours of riding within a roughly three-hour visit. Full-day rides cover more demanding terrain and include a lunch stop.

Depending on the ride, routes follow quiet lanes, hillside paths, streams and open moorland. Ask the team which option fits the time you have and the riding you want to do.

Before the ride, you can get to know your horse with help from staff, including guidance on grooming, handling and tacking up.

For a longer visit, ask about combining riding with the centre’s guesthouse, camping or glamping accommodation. Riding and accommodation availability should be checked when planning your stay.

The centre is run by the Griffiths family and welcomes individual riders and groups. All rides must be booked in advance; check current seasonal availability, arrival instructions and clothing requirements with the team.
