Welcome to Shepherds Retreat Wales

Shepherds Retreat Wales gives visitors a farm base near Llangorse Lake, with three small glamping huts looking towards Mynydd Troed and the Black Mountains. Brown Hare and Sweet Briar are traditional shepherd’s huts; Tilly has the character of a gypsy-style caravan. Each sleeps two, so a couple can book one, while friends or family can take all three for a group of up to six.

Inside, the huts have a double bed, seating, storage, a wood burner and lighting. Bedding and towels are supplied. Each has outdoor seating and a firepit or barbecue, making it easy to spend an evening outside under Bannau Brycheiniog’s dark skies. Cooking and washing are separate from the sleeping spaces: a shared kitchen lodge has equipment, a fridge, sink, table and chairs, and the neighbouring shower lodge has a hot-water shower, toilet and basin. Visitors should expect simple shared facilities rather than en-suite rooms.

The huts stand on Crickie Farm, a working sheep and cattle farm about a mile from Llangorse village and Llyn Syfaddan. This puts lakeside walking, boating and wildlife close to the stay, while the wider national park offers hill routes and days out in Brecon, Hay-on-Wye and the Black Mountains. The farm setting is part of the experience, from animals nearby to open mountain views.

The family also runs Ellesmere Riding Centre near the village. Guests interested in pony trekking or hacking can explore riding as part of the visit, with rides arranged separately. Well-behaved dogs are welcomed in the huts; check current conditions and availability for the individual hut before travelling. Together, the three stays offer a flexible base for seeing Llangorse and the eastern Bannau at a gentler pace.
