The Old Sunday School Room
The Old Sunday School Room, Trecastle
Stay in a former Victorian Sunday School near Trecastle
Every building has a history. At The Old Sunday Schoolroom, that history is part of your stay.
Just over two miles from Trecastle, this former Victorian Sunday school has been converted into a welcoming self-catering holiday cottage while retaining much of the character that makes the building unique. High ceilings, large original windows and generous open spaces reflect its past, creating a place that feels quite different from an ordinary holiday cottage.
The cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms, or up to six using the sofa bed. Downstairs, one bedroom has a double bed and sofa bed, and the other has twin beds. The main living space and kitchen are upstairs, where daylight pours through the original windows and a wood-burning stove makes a comfortable place to gather after a day outdoors. Guests need to be comfortable using stairs.
The cottage is a useful base for exploring western Bannau Brycheiniog. Spend the morning walking around Usk Reservoir, climb Fan Brycheiniog, discover Llyn y Fan Fach, or head towards Brecon or Llandovery for independent shops, cafés and local history. Quiet country lanes, mountain roads and open moorland also offer opportunities for cycling, photography and scenic drives.
Back at the cottage, light the wood-burning stove on cooler evenings, enjoy dinner together after a day on the hills or step outside after dark to experience the night skies in Bannau Brycheiniog International Dark Sky Reserve.
Pets are welcome, but are restricted to the upstairs rooms indoors. Electric vehicle charging is available, with parking for two standard-sized cars and secure storage for bicycles. Wi-fi is provided, although mobile reception is limited.
Whether you are planning a walking holiday, a family break or simply a few days in the countryside, The Old Sunday Schoolroom offers a distinctive place to stay and a base from which to explore western Bannau Brycheiniog.
