Welcome to The Old Sunday School Room, Trecastle

Stay in a former Victorian Sunday School in the heart of Trecastle

Every building has a history. At The Old Sunday Schoolroom, that history is part of your stay.

Standing in the centre of Trecastle, this former Victorian Sunday school has been converted into a welcoming self-catering holiday cottage while retaining much of the character that makes the building unique. High ceilings, large original windows and generous open spaces reflect its past, creating a place that feels quite different from an ordinary holiday cottage.

Sleeping up to six guests, the cottage is well suited to families, friends or couples exploring together. The main living space is upstairs, where daylight pours through the original windows and a wood-burning stove makes a comfortable place to gather after a day outdoors. Downstairs, two spacious bedrooms provide flexible accommodation, while the well-equipped kitchen and living areas make longer stays just as easy as weekend breaks.

Trecastle is one of the smallest villages in Bannau Brycheiniog, yet its location places some of the National Park’s best-loved landscapes within easy reach. Spend the morning walking around Usk Reservoir, climb Fan Brycheiniog, discover Llyn y Fan Fach, or head east towards Brecon or west to Llandovery for independent shops, cafés and local history. Quiet country lanes, mountain roads and open moorland also make this an excellent base for cycling, photography and scenic drives.

Back in the village, life moves at a gentler pace. Light the wood-burning stove on cooler evenings, enjoy dinner together after a day on the hills or step outside after dark to experience some of the clear night skies that have earned Bannau Brycheiniog its reputation as an International Dark Sky Reserve.

Dogs are welcome too, making it easy for the whole family to enjoy a holiday together, while electric vehicle charging provides added convenience for guests travelling by EV.

Whether you’re planning a walking holiday, a family break or simply a few days surrounded by mountain scenery and village life, The Old Sunday Schoolroom offers a distinctive place to stay and an ideal base from which to explore western Bannau Brycheiniog.
