Welcome to The Kitchen at the Chapel
The Kitchen at the Chapel serves seasonal food inside The Chapel on Market Street in central Abergavenny. The restored nineteenth-century building is part of The Art Shop & Chapel, giving visitors a place to stop for breakfast, lunch, coffee or a homemade cake while exploring the market town. Its setting makes food and the arts part of the same visit.
The kitchen prepares changing dishes for vegetarian, vegan and meat eaters, alongside cakes and desserts that include gluten- and dairy-free choices. Drinks include barista coffee, fine teas and homemade fruit cordials, as well as local craft cider and ales and biodynamic wines. Anyone with a dietary requirement should let the team know when ordering so they can advise on the current menu.
Inside, the former chapel provides an open space for a meal or a shorter pause. Outside is a secluded garden designed and planted by Sarah Price, offering another place to sit when the weather allows. The adjoining larder shop has homemade jams, chutneys and condiments to take away, extending the experience beyond the table.
The Kitchen belongs to a wider creative venue. The Chapel hosts exhibitions, workshops and events with artists, musicians and writers, while The Art Shop and gallery on nearby Cross Street is only a short walk away. Selected concert dates also have pre-concert suppers; these are separate occasions and require advance booking rather than being part of the everyday café service.
A meal here can sit between Abergavenny’s independent shops, galleries and other town-centre stops, or give visitors time to pause before continuing into the eastern Bannau Brycheiniog. Menus, events and opening arrangements change, so the live Chapel programme is the place for current details.
