Welcome to Brecon Mountain Railway

Brecon Mountain Railway runs from Pant, near Merthyr Tydfil, into Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. The narrow-gauge line follows part of the former Brecon & Merthyr Railway through woodland, alongside Taf Fechan Reservoir and up to Torpantau. The full return journey includes a stop at Pontsticill.

Choose an enclosed Heritage Car or an open-sided Excursion Car when booking. The carriages are unheated, so dress for the weather. Steam locomotives normally haul the trains, although a diesel may be used for operational or safety reasons.

Pant Station has tearooms, a gift shop and a workshop viewing area. At Pontsticill there is a lakeside café and children’s play area. Toilets are available at both stations, but not on the train. Visitor parking is at Pant Station; use the railway’s directions and postcode CF48 2DD.

A limited number of manual-wheelchair spaces are available in an adapted carriage and must be booked ahead; powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be carried. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on standard services, with different rules for special events. Check the current timetable, access information and event conditions before booking.
