Black Mountains Gliding Club
Black Mountains Gliding Club
Black Mountains Gliding Club – experience flights and training from Talgarth Airfield
Set 970 feet above sea level at Talgarth Airfield, Black Mountains Gliding Club is a small, active club in a spectacular setting beneath the Black Mountains in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. It is one of the few places in the UK where visitors can experience true mountain soaring.
First-time flyers can take a gliding experience flight with a qualified pilot. After a briefing, the dual-control glider is aerotowed to rising air before being released to soar, with wide views across the Black Mountains, Hay Bluff, Llangorse and the Central Beacons. Gift e-vouchers are available, and existing voucher holders can book their flight date and time online.
The club also offers routes into learning to glide, from introductory multi-flight experiences to training for beginners, members and visiting pilots. Its qualified instructors can help new pilots develop their skills towards solo flying, while experienced pilots can make the most of ridge, wave and cross-country flying with few airspace restrictions.
Because gliding depends on weather, aircraft serviceability and volunteer operations, visitors should check current flying days and availability before travelling. The office is not staffed, so general enquiries are best sent through the contact form on the club’s official website.
