Welcome to The Wild of the Words – Camping at Cwmffrwd Farm
Meadow camping among the Black Mountains
Set across 22 acres of wildflower meadows on the slopes of the Black Mountains, Cwmffrwd Farm offers peaceful, low-impact camping in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
The farm lies between Cwmdu and Pen-gennffordd, overlooking the Rhiangoll Valley and with direct access to the surrounding hills. Its spacious pitches are spread across two four-acre meadows, creating plenty of room for guests while helping to protect the quiet character of the site.
Tent pitches sit towards the upper parts of the fields, with views down the valley. Pitches for small campervans, up to approximately VW Transporter or Ford Transit size, are positioned along the lower meadow.
For visitors who prefer to arrive without their own camping equipment, furnished four and five-metre bell tents are also available. These off-grid tents include a double futon bed with bedding, rugs, cushions, hot-water bottles and a firepit. Basic camp beds can be added, although bedding for these is not provided.
Simple facilities, space to slow down
Facilities are deliberately simple and include composting toilets in the meadows, two flushing toilets, three hot showers and a washing-up area. Each pitch has a firepit, with seasoned firewood available to buy.
Vehicles are generally kept in the meadow car park to reduce compaction and protect the wildflower fields. Wheelbarrows are provided for moving equipment, and the hosts can help where assistance is needed. Dogs are welcome at no additional charge but must remain on leads or ground tethers throughout the farm.
The main camping season runs from May to September. Mobile data coverage is limited, offering an opportunity to step away from screens, explore the meadows and enjoy walks beginning directly from the farm.
Guests looking for a year-round stay can book Y Llofft Wair | The Hayloft, Cwmffrwd’s self-catering accommodation for up to six people. The farm also hosts Wild of the Words events, seasonal gatherings and nature-based experiences, which can add something distinctive to a camping break when dates coincide.
