Trans Wales Trails – Horse Riding Holidays
Trans Wales Horseback Trails
Horse riding days and holidays from the Black Mountains
Trans Wales Trails offers day rides, farm-based riding weekends and longer horseback holidays from Blaenau Bach Farm near Talgarth, in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Routes explore the Black Mountains and other parts of Wales; some longer trails stay at inns along the way, with luggage transported between overnight stops.
These are rides for confident, competent riders who can canter over uneven ground on forward-going horses, not for complete beginners. Day rides accept competent riders from age 12 and specify a weight limit of under 13 stone. Check the experience, age, weight and fitness requirements for your chosen ride with the team before booking.
The Welsh cobs, mainly Section Ds, are bred and trained on the farm and live as a herd. Riders are encouraged to help catch, groom and prepare their horses, with support from the team. The guides know both the horses and the local trails.
Pub and picnic day rides include lunch, with the route and lunch stop depending on the weather and conditions. Private rides may be available by arrangement. Riding takes place throughout the year, with day-ride dates fitted around the longer trails, so it helps to suggest a few possible dates.
Selected riding breaks include a stay in the farm’s traditional Welsh longhouse, with en-suite rooms and home-cooked meals. Check what is included in your chosen holiday and what riding kit to bring or arrange to borrow. Contact the team directly for information about the herd and any current horse sales.
Send a booking enquiry or contact Emily by phone or email to discuss the right ride for you. Before travelling, follow the operator’s directions rather than relying on the postcode alone.
