Thursday Markets
Hay’s main market day, with forty traders taking over the square and surrounding streets every Thursday, fifty two weeks of the year, come rain or shine.
Well supported by locals doing their weekly shop, filling bags with store cupboard staples, seasonal produce, fresh fish, local meats, Welsh cheeses, artisan breads and treats.
There is also takeaway food and barista coffee, plus a well-established flea market around the Clock Tower and a rotating group of talented makers and craftspeople in the Buttermarket Hall.
Saturday Markets April to October
The monthly Saturday markets run seasonally on the first Saturday of the month, April to October.
Championing independent and artisan businesses, the monthly market focuses on speciality foods, artisan makers, local producers, gatherers and vintage resellers.
The vibe for Saturdays is relaxed. Visitors come to shop, sample produce, and sit on the square and Castle terraces to eat, drink and soak up the weekend ambience.
The square has a focus on food, with the Buttermarket showcasing fledgling and established designer makers. The Castle Honesty Bookshop is also transformed each month into a vintage fashion, collectibles, furniture and flea market.
