Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Visitor Centre
Nestled in the heart of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, the Visitor Centre, known locally as the Mountain Centre, offers stunning views of Pen y Fan. Facilities include parking, toilets, a children’s play area, café, and gift shop Accessibility features include a step to the main toilet block inside the building and a ramped outdoor path to the café.

Dog MUST be on leads no longer than 2m from 1st March to 31st July and we would politely request the same at all other times of year.

Explore with the Terrain Rider wheelchair
The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park provides the Terrain Rider, an all-terrain mobility scooter, for visitors with limited mobility. This allows users to explore Mynydd Illtyd, a scenic area near the National Park Visitor Centre. Funded by the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics fund, the service is free, with donations welcome. Advance booking is required for two-hour sessions. On arrival, users receive a briefing, a route map, and instructions. The Terrain Rider is only for use on Mynydd Illtyd. Getting here by car
The Visitor Centre is conveniently accessible via the A470.
From Brecon: Travel south on the A470 towards Merthyr Tydfil. After approximately 4 miles, in the village of Libanus, turn right following the brown signs to the National Park Visitor Centre.
From Merthyr Tydfil: Head north on the A470 towards Brecon. After about 12 miles, upon reaching Libanus, turn left, guided by the brown signs to the Visitor Centre.

Getting Here by Public Transport
Due to it’s remote location, the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Visitor Centre isn’t directly accessible by public transport.
However, visitors can reach the nearby village of Libanus and then walk to it, It is a 20 minute walk.
Bus Services: From Cardiff: The TrawsCymru T4 bus route operates between Cardiff and Newtown, passing through Brecon. Passengers can alight at Libanus. From Swansea: The T6 bus service connects Swansea to Brecon, with stops en route.

EV Charging Points
Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Visitor Centre is equipped with six electric vehicle charging points, making it easier for eco-conscious visitors to enjoy the stunning landscapes while reducing their carbon footprint. These charging points are strategically located to accommodate those traveling in electric vehicles, providing a convenient option for visitors exploring the park.
It’s important to note that these charging points are not fast charge, so users should plan accordingly for the time it takes to charge their vehicles.

Car Park Permits – Brecon Beacons National Park Shop
Open seven days a week, Caffi y Fan serves a delicious range of food from breakfast to lunch, as well as coffee, cakes, and light snacks throughout the day. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast to kickstart your adventure or a warm cup of coffee after a long walk, the café has you covered.
The café also features a dog-friendly area indoors, making it a perfect pit stop for those exploring the park with their furry companions.
Proud to champion local produce, Caffi y Fan incorporates Welsh ingredients into most of its menu.
Gift and Craft Shop.
Our shop is well worth a visit. It stocks those all-important maps and guides, along with a number of essential items that will help make your visit go smoothly.
We are also proud to partner with Platform One Craft Co-operative. Find handmade gifts from twelve local crafters, all based in and around the National Park. Each day one of the crafters will be onsite, so you can meet the people who make the products on sale.
The Visitor Centre is equipped with accessible facilities to ensure a comfortable visit for everyone. Men’s and women’s toilets are available inside the main building, providing convenient access for all visitors.
Additionally, there is a disabled toilet located outside the main building for ease of use. For those with more complex needs, a disabled changing places facility is also available during opening hours, ensuring comprehensive support for all visitors.
Families will also find the baby changing room located in the main building, making it easier for parents to care for their little ones while enjoying their time at the centre.
