Renowned local foods

Bannau Brycheiniog/ Brecon Beacons National Park is renowned for it’s exceptional mountain lamb (particularly the Brecknockshire Cheviot breed), beef, venison, and multi award winning smoked products.

Cheeses like Y Fenni, St Illtyd, and Pwll Mawr cheddar (matured in a coal mine) are local specialties.

Apple juices and cider are pressed from local orchards, whisky and gin are matured in the caves under the park and mineral water from local springs is sold across the UK.
For dessert consider an indulgent ice cream from one of our extremely popular local producers – when the locals are queuing for it, you know it’s good.

While you’re here get to know some of the people who work the land and make delicious food and drink from it’s ingredients. One of the best ways to do that is to sample their wares at our restaurants, pubs and cafés, or stock up for a picnic at our markets, farm shops, bakeries and delis.
