Welcome to Lower Porthamel Camping
A Laidback Farm Escape on the Edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons)
Tucked between the rivers Llynfi and Wye, and just on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, Lower Porthamel offers a relaxed rural retreat with a difference. Whether you’re here to hike, paddle, fish, cycle or simply switch off, this working farm invites you to slow down and savour your surroundings.
Accommodation is spread across the farm’s organic orchard – pitch your tent or choose from a variety of stay options, all nestled between the very apple trees that go into the cider you’ll find served fresh at the on-site taproom.
Sobremesa Drinks has been brewing farmhouse beers and crafting natural ciders at Lower Porthamel since 2023. The Taproom is open for relaxed evenings of local produce, with a small menu of Spanish-style snacks, cheeses, and charcuterie designed to pair perfectly with what’s on tap.
And if you’re wondering about the name – sobremesa is the untranslatable Spanish word for the time after a good meal, when you stay at the table, chatting and enjoying the company. That pretty much sums up the vibe here – come for the nature, stay for the good food, drink and conversation.
