For a self-catering escape with a twist, The Toad offers a wonderfully restored GWR brake van – also known as a Toad Wagon – transformed into a one-of-a-kind retreat in the heart of the Welsh countryside. With original features lovingly preserved and enhanced by handcrafted oak and mahogany details, this 20-tonne piece of railway history provides an unforgettable base for exploring Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park and beyond.

Inside, modern comforts meet vintage charm. The cabin is fully equipped with heating, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and charging points – all carefully integrated without disturbing its heritage feel. The fitted kitchen includes a brass sink, fridge/freezer, two-burner gas stove, and a cosy Ekol Apple Pie woodburning stove that doubles as a mini oven.

The en-suite bathroom features a flushing toilet, enamel shower with a water-saving head, local Myddfai toiletries, and thoughtful touches like a hairdryer and fluffy towels. At the end of the day, curl up in the bespoke corner double bed or step onto the balcony to enjoy far-reaching views, bird song, and dark skies perfect for stargazing.
