Welcome to Carreg Cennen Castle Café and Tea Rooms
A Bite with a View
Tucked beneath the dramatic ruins of Carreg Cennen Castle on the western edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, this family-run tea room is a favourite stop for walkers, history lovers and day trippers alike. Open 364 days a year, it’s a warm and welcoming place to enjoy a hearty lunch or a simple slice of cake with a hot drink.
The menu is rooted in traditional Welsh fare, with plenty of homemade options. Highlights include their much-loved cawl – a thick vegetable soup served with bread, butter and cheese – and a classic Welsh rarebit with mustard and leek. Hearty options like homemade cottage pie (made using the farm’s own Longhorn beef) or a roast beef salad are ideal for refuelling after exploring the castle grounds.
Lighter choices include jacket potatoes with a range of fillings, sandwiches and toasties, or a proper Ploughman’s with Pant Mawr cheese. Teas, coffees and cakes are served all day.
There’s no admission charge to access the tea room, farmyard, car park or gift shop, and the views from the terrace alone make this a memorable stop. Whether you’re walking the hills or heading to the castle, Carreg Cennen’s tea room is well worth a visit.
